Daddy Post

Dear Jedi Youngling Jub Jub,
Wow! What a month February has been for you. Week 1 you started standing on your own. At first it was only for a few seconds but now you can stand for as long as you want. I think the only reason you ever stop is to go for a toy or to dive into someone’s lap. Next, we started you down the road of good personal hygiene with your first toothbrush. Probably a good idea since those teeth keep budding. Then you got your lion walker in the mail. Even though he laughs like a moron he helps you Frankenstein-walk around the apartment. You haven’t quite master sitting on him and using your feet to drive forward. Still, it’s funny watching you push backwards until you hit a roadblock and give up. We began a new quest this month: screening all the Star Wars movies. I’ve perfectly plotted it out so we will watch one movie a weekend until your birthday. So far, we have New Hope and Empire covered and you thoughts on the dichotomy of good and evil in the movies are very insightful. I tried to point out how Darth Vader was one of the ultimate mythological icons to represent evil. You quickly replied, “goon-flanna” which anyone can see obviously translates to Vader’s internal battle between light and dark is merely symbolism of two sides of the same coin that reside within all of us. I think Mom’s favorite part about the whole situation is that we turned “gunja-gunja” snacks into “power snaps” when the movies are on. Your last major turn came three nights ago. You decided just standing around wasn’t enough anymore and you took your first three steps. I’m not talking about you holding on to our hands, the walls, or even Moron Lion. No! These were three steps without anyone’s help! Makes me glad the bookshelves are bolted down and we have rubber padding on all the sharp corners. I think you will be running by your birthday.
Love,
Jedi Master Dad

ELEVEN MONTHS OLD!

My Precious Baby,

In exactly one month, you will be a YEAR old! That is surreal to me. There are days where the hours literally fly by and then suddenly Dad is coming home and I can’t believe the day has passed. That is how these past eleven months have been for me. My tiny little baby isn’t that tiny anymore….tear….

So! The biggest thing that happened this past month occurred three days ago. You walked! All by your lonesome! It was THE cutest thing ever and I was so happy that you waited till Dad was there to see. Three wobbly Frankenstein steps. It was so random and out of the blue that me and Dad couldn’t believe that you were actually doing it.

AND!!! You are finally eating!!! You love avocados and any kind of noodle. You loathe anything sweet (which came as a shocker considering who your mother is) and never turn down a pretzel stick or gunja gunja snacks. You refuse to eat off a spoon or fork and can’t stand to be in your highchair at the moment. But I think that is a result of your increased mobility. You don’t like sitting still in anything for more than like 15 minutes. Car rides are just a blast these days.

You:
• Scream all the time just to hear your own voice. Literally scream.
• Are the quickest crawler I’ve ever had
• Have the best facial expressions
• Shake your head no and know exactly what it means
• Can clap if you want to
• Push your toy box all around the living room till it gets stuck on either the bookcase or the door frame and then scream and hit it
• Already (!!!) have some decent tantrums where you throw toys, hit, and scream/fake cry
• Have had baby time outs (which you obviously have no clue you are getting but I’m preparing you for what’s to come)
• Talk Talk Talk Talk Talk Talk Talk – ALL THE TIME! Its adorable and I hope you never stop
• Turn the tv off and on about 30 times a day
• Are warming up to Sesame Street (and only when I sing all the songs they sing)
• Adore bath time
• Can stack blocks and help put the toys away
• Are up to about 15 books per one sitting – sometimes more
• Are OBCESSED with the dog’s cage
• Think that baby in the mirror is beyond adorable
• Can stand for forever now
• Take all your books off the book shelf and then turn the pages to them all by yourself now – so cute it’s ridiculous
• Will play by yourself for a good 10 minutes now
• Push your little lion all around the house but can’t seem to figure out to sit on him and move
• Officially have enough hair for a (tiny tiny) bow. YES!
• Drink water out of sippy cup (but not for reals – you just chew on it and when water comes out you swallow it)
• Say Mama, something that sounds like Dada, ba, and goo
• Giggle all the time now.
• Go to bed at 6pm and wake up on average twice a night and wake up before 5am and 6am
• Are still rocked to sleep every night and at naps
• Have basically wean yourself off the binky – you only want to fall asleep and spit it out once you nod off or when your teeth hurt
• Have 6 teeth with two more on their way

When Dad comes home you book down that hall to see him and then demand to be picked up. I still love that. He has buttons on his coat and I’m pretty sure its half excitement for Dad and half excitement for those buttons. You two have all these (bizarre) games you play which include power rings, jewish cookie jar, and some weird finger game.

I look at old pictures on your blog and watch old videos and I am just amazed at how you are this little person now. You have your own personality and you do all these weird little faces which totally crack us up. Oh and in anticipation of writing this letter, I counted how many times I kiss you in a day and no joke it was 82 and that was a slow day.

I Love You More Than You Will Ever Know,

Mommy

BOOM!

Traumatized

Me! Not her!

She had to get a vial of blood drawn for her yearly check up. Days before, I couldn't sleep over the thought of them sticking my precious baby with a needle and on the way to get it done I was physically ill and honestly thought for a moment I was going to throw up. With good reason! They had to stab her THREE times - twice on one arm and once on the other - and she screamed louder than I have ever heard her cry. And they bruised my gorgeous baby's arms. She got over this in like 5 minutes. Meanwhile, I sobbed in the bathroom right after and then couldn't talk for like 20 minutes. But seriously it was bad for her first exposure to a needle. No more needles for a LONG time.

Hopefully not a sign of what's to come

We took a book reading trip over to Borders today and you were ALL over this little blond hair boy named Lucas. I'm calling him your first crush. Following him wherever he went and even staring endlessly at him. Your father encouraged this flirtation. You even at one point crawled all the way from one end of the carpet to the other to go stand next to him and just stare at him. It was kind of sad if you weren't a baby.

Random-ness

As of today, both eye teeth are through the gums - for a grand total of 6 teeth now.

You are TERRIFIED of tmx Elmo. The sight of him causes you to scream.

And you are eating only avocado and noodles in beef broth these days with a few crackers and yogurt bites in between.

You are thisclose to clapping on your own.

You say mama CONSTANTLY- TAKE THAT AARON!
