Halloween 2013

School Parade (in the rain)

Trick or treating (in the rain)!

Even though it was raining, you did SO good with the trick and treating.  You said Trick or Treat! nice and loud and always said Thank you.  We only did a block (which was the perfect amount) and you totally dug the whole thing even though you were getting soaked.  Next year, we will tear up those Oak Park streets filling up those buckets!

The Museum of Contemporary Art

Today was Family Day at the MCA and families got in free.  And honestly that is why I wanted to check it out.  I didn't really think that it would all that awesome, but I knew there was a park right across the street so I figured if you guys weren't into it, we would just play at the park and walk around downtown for a few hours.  Win win.  BUT...It was really cool and you guys totally dug it.  We will definitely go back once a month for each new "theme".  This one was Play and when we walked in they gave us this pamphlet with all the things to do and stickers for you guys to check off as you do.  They even provided free snacks in a "chill out" room.

Said pamphlet:

Next time, I'll try to remember to not cover up the activities.

We didn't understand why the board of colors was there.  Too "artsy" for us I guess.   This sculpture is HUGE in person.

Outside rock garden

Making leaves for a "leaf pile" and making silly faces

Rolling in the "leaf pile"

Balloons and noise makers

Crafting it up in the "dress up" section which was a make your own dress up out of like tissue paper and other crafty stuff and you were not pleased with the deception of "dress up".  You were like "Where's the costumes, Mommy?"

Monkey bar obsessed

Right before we left the museum (after spending like 30 minutes trying to get Asher to pee in the public potty unsuccessfully) you told me you were freezing and needed a sweater... And you felt warm.

Fever town

Minus the fever part, it was a really good day.

Field and Shedd "Field trip" Today

Making pumpkins

Cutting it up

You harvested this corn from "bean stalks"

You love the drums

My little penguins

The story behind the shot is way better than the actual picture.  You and your brother played with these two little girls (Annabelle and Grace - "your new aquarium friends") for over an hour today while I intently watched.  You talked loudly and often and you were very vocal about adding details to the "story".  Like Asher was being the baby penguin at one point so you told the girls how he needed a nest and tiny fish for him to eat so then all three of you took turns running to the other side and bring him back fish and straw.  Adorable.  The whole time there is "music" (more like nature sounds) playing in the the background and it is on a cycle so everytime it would start to "rain" you would yell "It's raining. Everyone come on to the cave" and then you guys would go down the slides (on your bellies - you are penguins and all) and stay in the tunnel till the rain stopped.  You made sure to reprimand Grace (the 6 year old pointing above) when she started to climb up the rocks ("Grace, NO that's dangerous!") and she very promptly got down.  And it made me so proud when you just walked up to her and said, "Hi, do you want to play?"  Like I may have got a little misty behind my glasses.  You are ever so slightly getting more and more aggressive (in the good way) and really finding your voice and your niche in the group settings.  And you kept referring to Asher as "my brother" which was beyond adorable.  At one point, a new little girl approached you guys and you said, "Oh hi, do you want to play with us?" I love the "Oh, hi" and that you are so sweet all the time.  When it was time to go, you ran up to the girls and yelled Bye! and Grace ran over to her Mom all sad and said "My friend is leaving".  So her Mom suggested she give you a hug so she came over and hugged you and you hugged her back and then you skipped on down to the submarine.  Maybe this growing thing isn't all bad...
